On the trail in the city without streets… with The Haiti Workshop for Foreign Field Journalism

The workshop attendees climb off the plane and immediately they are shooting. The late afternoon light in the cities without streets (the concrete squatter cities that grow up the mountainsides like vinery) is a testing ground. There is difficult light, difficult people, difficult smells and it is difficult to find your way out if you go too deep. It is the everyday life of people you are photographing, which means they think us strange. No one thinks their own neighborhood is interesting…
