The Storm That Would Not Come

Children at sea’s edge in Deye Chabon shantytown in Cite Soleil, Haiti, wait for the storm that would not come. “Now I will believe that there are unicorns…” says Sebastian in Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” Perhaps now these children can believe too.

Their fellow countrymen in the southwest may find another quote more fitting, however, such as when in the same play Shakespeare’s Ariel quotes a King’s son, Ferdinand, saying, “Hell is empty and all the devils are here.”
